CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 1, ENDECA, a provider of software solutions for companies that need to integrate, organize and navigate enterprise data, completed a $15 million second round of funding. The company will use the new funding from Ampersand Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners and Venrock Associates to fuel product development, and expand the company's sales and marketing initiatives.

BELMONT, Oct. 1, FireSpout, Inc., a provider of content management solutions, closed a Series B financing round totaling $5 million from lead investor, Boston CommonAngels, and several private investors. FireSpout will use the funds to expand sales and marketing, extend partner networks, and broaden technology development efforts.

WOBURN, Oct. 2, Cerylion, Inc., a developer of mobile network applications, secured $5 million in series B convertible preferred funding. The investment was led by Boston-based Chestnut Partners. Cerylion will use the funding to continue development of its wireless offering and to expand the company's sales efforts.

CAMBRIDGE, Oct. 3, Altus raised $35 million in private financing to advance the company's Crystalomics products, which are based on the crystalline solid state of proteins and peptides. Nomura International plc and U.S. Venture Partners served as lead investors, with additional participation from BankInvest and Clariden Bank among others.

BOSTON, Oct. 5, College Publisher, a provider of publishing technologies and marketing services aimed at reaching college students and recent graduates, secured $8.5 million in second round funding. Lead investors included Venture Capital Fund of New England (VCFNE) and Advanced Technology Ventures. Masthead Venture Partners as well as a group of private investors also participated in the round.

WOBURN, Oct. 8, Acme Packet, an emerging company building a carrier-class solution for network service providers, raised $16 million of second round funding led by Menlo Ventures and including Canaan Partners. The capital will be used for the continued development, marketing and sales of Acme's products and services.

BURLINGTON, Oct. 9, NTRU, a provider of security solutions for consumer devices and applications, secured $26.1 million in Series B financing. Investor AB led the round, with participation from Texas Instruments, Sony, Macrovision, Lehman Brothers Venture Capital, Greylock, Granite Ventures and 3i. The company has raised over $38 million.

MARLBOROUGH, Oct. 10, Cetek Corporation closed on a $14 million private equity financing to discover new natural product drug candidates using its patented capillary electrophoresis (CE) screening technology. Investors included Stata Ventures Partners, John and Stephen Davis, Gainesborough Investments, and James L. Waters.


BEVERLY, Oct. 10, Microsoft and Groove Networks Inc., a provider of decentralized software for secure business collaboration, announced a strategic relationship designed to advance the delivery of Web and peer services to businesses. As part of the relationship, Microsoft has invested approximately $51 million in Groove Networks, resulting in a minority equity stake. Previous investors, including Accel Partners, also participated in Groove Networks' $54 million financing.
