TEWKSBURY, June 1, Vasca, Inc. raised $19.6 million
of private equity capital. MVM Limited, a UK based medical
venture fund, led the round of financing with The Sprout Group,
Crossroads, Tailwind Capital Partners, Atlas Ventures, Pacific
Ventures, Bedrock Capital, and Weiss, Peck and Greer also
participating. Founded in April 1996, Vasca develops proprietary
technologies that provide improved body access for therapeutic
intervention.
CAMBRIDGE,
June 4, Avaki Corporation, formerly Applied MetaComputing,
closed $6 Million in its first venture capital funding,
which was led by Polaris Venture Partners. The funding will
be used to commercialize the company's Internet-scale enterprise-class
"grid" middleware platform, which integrates distributed,
pervasive, and peer-oriented computing.
MAYNARD,
June 4, AP Engines, a provider of an OSS integration
platform for telephony and broadband provisioning and usage
management, closed $30 million in a second round financing.
Thomas Weisel Capital Partners led the round, which also
included a strategic investment from Enron Broadband Services,
a subsidiary of Enron Corp. The company's original investors
- Atlas Venture, Bessemer Venture Partners and Commonwealth
Capital Ventures - also participated in the round, as did
new partners Lighthouse Capital Partners and Mentmore Venture
Partners.
ANDOVER,
June 4, HydroCision Inc. received $2 million in a
second round of private financing from Oxford Bioscience
Partners, a life sciences and medical technology-focused
venture capital firm headquartered in Boston. The company
previously raised the $5.5 million from Oxford Bioscience.
This final $2 million investment from Oxford resulted from
HydroCision's meeting certain milestones.
NATICK,
June 4, Connected Corporation, a provider of scalable
solutions for enterprise PC backup and recovery, received
$30 million in financing from new investors Peregrine Systems,
StarVest Partners, New York Life Capital Partners, Ironside
Ventures and Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown, as well as existing
investors Baker Capital, Fidelity Ventures, Granite Ventures,
Applied Technology and Solstice Capital. Connected has raised
$66 million in equity financing to date.
WORCESTER,
June 6, Blackstone Technology Group, Inc., a developer
of high-throughput computing software and services, secured
$12.6 million in Series B venture financing led by Ampersand
Ventures. Co-investors included SOFTBANK, Garfly Invest
AG, Itochu International and Synopsys, Inc.
CHELMSFORD, June 6, Triton Systems, Inc., a materials
product and process development firm, announced that it
has completed the first round of financing for its three
new spin-offs. The new companies, Elecon Inc., Sensera,
Inc., and Tribond, Inc., were recently created to further
develop and market commercial materials technologies incubated
at Triton. Millennium Materials Fund was the lead investor
in the financing.
CHELMSFORD,
June 11, e-StudioLive Inc., a provider of interactive
Webcasting systems, received $4 million in Series B funding.
Apex Investment Partners, Putnam Investments, and several
private investors participated in the round. e-StudioLive
will use the money to support the growth of the company.
Founded in 1971, e-StudioLive provides content creation
solutions for live interactive and on-demand Webcasting.
